Guest Testimonials of Nicks Pension

I found this hotel on tripadvisor and stayed here because of the good reviews. I arrived with my girlfriend at about 11pm the night we were supposed to check-in due to long airline delays and despite the lobby being closed and everyone asleep, a couple of the staff members were kind enough to get up and show us our room. The room was simple (we booked the standard room with fan) and had two hard but clean beds and an old but clean bathroom. The hot water was finicky but we managed. Looking at the superior and deluxe rooms along the creek, they seemed to be quite nice. |

I stayed here with two friends after checking out six other neighbouring guest houses. At the end of a little lane off Monkey Forest road, a large selection of bungalows and a guest house nestle into the sides of a terraced tropical garden. Accessed via a bridge over a burbing brook, the accommodation is quiet and cool, despite being 2 mins walk from the centre of Ubud. Each bungalow is quite private, with it's own large terrace, table and chairs for whiling away the hours in the shade of the sun. We chose a semi-detached bungalow with a very large, clean bedroom and bathroom. The minimalist rooms were cleaned and beds were made up every day - we were even given a pot of tea, cups and saucers every morning, left out on our terrace table for an early morning cuppa! Walk up the stone steps to the top of the valley (only takes about 2 mins, but is quite steep) and across the small rice paddy field and you find a reasonably large pool, with Buddha fountain, shallow area for children and sun loungers around it. We spent quite a lot time there, sunning and swimming until dusk!

"We stayed at Nicks for 5 nights and found it very pleasant, the rooms were large and clean and the air conditioner worked well, views are stunning in tranquil surrounds. The only complaints are that towels were not very clean and some days there were not any in the room, the restaurant was awful and we stayed away from breakfast even though it was free. I do not recommend this place to elderly people or anyone who has troubles with walking as there are alot of steps to the pool and to Monkey Forest Road, for everyone else I highly recommend it. " |

We emailed Nicks directly and booked 3 rooms for 3 nights for my partner and our 4 children. We had rooms 101, 102 and 104 which looked brand new. The rooms are large, spacious, clean and have a bar fridge and great air con and fans. The decor is traditional balinese and was lovely. Whilst Nick's did not have all the trimmings of a big hotel chain (ie hair dryers, bidet, TV) , they did have good service, were only US$40 per night. It is in a great location but is quiet and scenic and our rooms overlooked a small creek and bridge. The gardens are lovely. At check in our fridges weren't restocked and they were not restocked daily. We stock our own anyway. We also had to ask for clean towels on one occasion. Breakfast is good for the price - fruit plate or fresh juice, pancake or eggs n toast and tea or coffee.. The pool area is small but suffiencient and backs onto rice paddys..Overall we were really happy with Nick's and enjoyed a quieter stay in UBUD, especially the complimentary pot of fresh tea each morning. We will be back. |

"Travelling couple with 15 month old girl. This place is made up out of 2 store bungalow. We had the top floor. There is a nice swimming pool and the service is great. Eg free tea every morning. The location is very good, coming out the front you are in town, going out the back the same and close to the monkey forest. The garden is very nice and there is a rice field in it as well. We saw the harvest straight from our balkony (large). Draw backs were: - the bathroom, shower, sink and toilet in one, so after shower all is wet. No wiper available - restaurant not good (but many others around) - the garden has many steps, so for a baby that walks not so suitable" |

"This place is simply adorable and wonderful. Picturesque and peaceful. Surrounded by paddy fields, trees and for a long time, I have not seen the stars so bright! or is it just the mood I am in? The staff even put a complimentary pot of tea at dawn outside the verandah. They are so friendly and accomodating. Only part to improve that I suggest is - advertise the wi-fi service, have cleaner bathrooms (they really need a good scrub) , but otherwise very enjoyable experience. " |

"Stayed for 2 nights on 20-Jul & 21-Jul with my husband. Perfect place to de-stress, very relaxed cottage-like accommodation. Environment is suitable for old folks, retirees and family bonding. Pot of tea at the balcony is most welcoming. Thank you for making our stay a memorable one since it is hubby's 60th birthday present from our daughters." |

"Room/Bathroom/cleanliness: Room was clean and spacious, bathroom was too spacious. Location: 3 The rooms are situated in location that requires a lot of walking (~ 7 min of walking up and down steps from the check-in lobby), which is a bad for my elderly parents. Also there are steep steps that guests are required to traverse out in order to get to Monkey Forest road: it is not good if you have elderly guests. Otherwise, if you don't mind a bit of walking, this hotel is excellent, because it's only around 5 minutes walkaway to Monkey Forest Rd. The ambience is great too, quiet and relaxing. Facilities: 3 Breakfast and the swimming pool are rudimentary. It's good enough for one that doesn't look for luxury. Service is not bad, I didn't require much of their services, so I can't really give a good rating. Overall, it's a value for money hotel." |

"At $22 per night for a spacious fan room plus breakfast, Nick's is excellent value for money. Also, the staff were very friendly and helpful. We just have two minor criticisms (i) whilst the breakfast was tasty, it was very skimpy, with the portions too small (incidentally, the restaurant itself is very good value) (ii) the speed of the overhead fan could not be adjusted and created too strong a draught. Other than these two minor points, we would highly recommend Nick's - we stayed for a week." |

"The best value hotel of all my travelling around SE Asia and I have done a lot. Very clean air con rooms set out in beautiful grounds with foot access into the centre of Ubud. Full size swimming pool, basic breakfast, but great clean rooms set out in small villas in well spaced out grounds. Don't be mislead by the low price. This is a fabulous clean place and the best value for money anywhere." |

"I have stayed at Nick's Penson for three days. The sceneric view is very beautiful with paddy fields and many trees. My room is quite okay but the bathroom is not so clean, anyway, it is suitable for budget travelers. Their staffs are so nice and polite. PS. Please be realized that there are three Nick's Hotels in Ubud (Nick's Pension, Nick's Homestay and Nick's Hidden). It migt be confused for shuttle bus companies to bring you up to the airport or Kuta beach so ask them clearly." |

Gorgeous rice field view, traditional balinese decor, wifi in the lounge, good basic breakfast, short walk to town, safe, good rates, quiet
The room type I reserved was not available when i arrived but they offered me a better room at the same rate. make sure you ask to see all the available rooms of your room type when you arrive so you can pick the one with the best view |

"The location is absolutely fabulous. The bungalows are built on a slope. So one has a niece vieuw sitting on ones terrace. But it is not particularly convenient for seniors or if one has trouble with walking. The overvieuw describes that the rooms are well decorated and that the bathrooms are equipped with high-quality toiletries. We certainly don't agree with that. The rooms are neat but simple decorated and the bathroom was provided with one single bathtowel per person. What we were also not pleased with is that on arrival in the evening the light from the terrace was not working what made it difficult to find the keyhole in the entrancedoor. Whereas the employee who brought us to our room had noticed this we assumed that this should be fixed the next day, but we had to ask for it and it lasted till the third day of our stay before it was done. What we found disturbing too was that on the first morning we had our breakfast in the eatery we saw two rats coming from behind the ceiling to collect their meal from the little offerings that were placed on a shelf that was attached high on the wall. This year was the 3rd year we had a stay in Ubud but we surely had better hotels before in this pricerange. Richard Isselmann, The Hague Netherlands, 24-27 oct. 2008" |

"The staff at Nick's couldn't be more welcoming and the location is absolutely perfect. The hotel is just five minutes for the shops and restuarants of Ubud, yet felt completely peaceful among the rice fields. I'll definitely be going back." |

"The hotel is good, with good facilities. There is only one important notice: when you have a little handicap you wil have troubles because the comples has been builden on a hill with many, many, may stairs. Dangerous for children! And when you can not walk good you also have a big problem!" |

"the whole environment is very peaceful and tranquil. a lot of steps to climb if your room is further into the pension. but that means you are nearer to the other exit to ubud market, which is good! do take the room with aircon because with the netting covering the bed, you won't get any air from the fan. i will definitely recommend nick's pension! :)" |
